Style File - Flower & Decor Tips & Ideas

Whether you’re a DIY bride or need help creating your vision, these tips from some of our favorite wedding professionals can guide you on your way.
1) Summer is the perfect time for bold color choices. “Think ocean-blue dresses with seasonal flowers in every color from yellow to orange to red and magenta,” suggests Alison Ellis of Floral Artistry.
2) "Find inspiration at home,” says Sarah Jo of Creative Muse Floral Design, who recommends brides draw ideas from the colors, textiles, and textures in their homes to find their wedding style.
3) “Slip herbs into your table settings to add an unexpected note,” suggests Nicole D’agata from The Painted Tulip. “You can never have enough flowers, rosemary, or lavender!” she says.
4) Boost the sensory appeal of your wedding by including herbal flowers, such as purple coneflower, oregano blossoms, foxglove, or lemon marigold. “Herbal flowers visually and aromatically entice,” says Maria of From Maria’s Garden.
5) “Trust your florist, even if you run into a few hiccups along the way,” says Gwen Hobbs of Flowers in Season. A good florist will get you through the inevitable planning bumps.
6) Keep in mind your favorite — and least favorite — scents when choosing your colors. You don’t want your wedding to be filled with a scent you despise just because a flower matches your décor.
7) “Know what you want,” says Alison Ellis, who encourages brides to speak up. If you’re allergic to lilies, can’t stand purple, or don’t like contemporary designs, these are things your florist needs to know.
8) "Choose an image, motif, or color and include it in all your wedding details, from invitations and table settings to directional signs at the wedding,” recommends Nicole D’agata.
EDITORS NOTE: it’s charming and adds a personal touch to spot something unexpected in bouquets such as ribbons, antique buttons, & heirloom brooches.
