SARAH CONINE to JAMES CARIFA August 20, 2005 LAKE ST.CATHERINE THE PROFESSIONALS: CATERING: THREE CLOCK INN COORDINATION: CEO WEDDINGS ENTERTAINMENT: BIG CITY SWING EVENT DESIGNER/FLOWERS: DAVID MITCHELL EVENT RENTALS: VERMONT TENT COMPANY PHOTOGRAPHY: MICHAEL RIDDELL WHEN YOUR MOST SPECIAL MOMENTS OCCUR IN ONE place, it's only natural to want to continue the tradition of sharing wonderful memories there. For James and Sarah there is no place on earth like Vermont. They both grew up spending weekends and holidays with their families here, they exchanged their first, sweet declaration of love here, they were engaged in Vermont, and it was Sarah's lifelong dream to get married on the shore of Lake St. Catherine. The choice to hold their wedding inVermont was a simple one.
In truth, nearly everything leading up to the incredible weekend was a breeze - from choosing the most perfect diamond, to being warmly embraced by Sarah's parents when James asked for her hand in marriage. Everything, that is, except for the actual proposal, the anticipation of which amounted to the most agonizing night James had spent in his life. He had planned a November weekend for the two of them in Vermont. Though the drive was only three hours, it felt like eight. He was nervous and antsy, and all evening long thought about the ring, and the big day that lay ahead.
Managing to get in only a few short hours of shut eye that night, he checked on the ring for what must have been a hundred times. When it was finally light outside, he roused Sarah. The morning was spectacular, the start of an ideal autumn day. He brought two cups of coffee upstairs and found her watching the sunrise from the couch that overlooked the lake. He began to tell her how special she was, how lucky he felt for their having found each other, and that he never wanted that to change. Dropping to one knee, James presented the little box and asked Sarah to marry him. She barely waited for him to finish speaking before she jumped out of the seat yelling, "Yes!!!!" He had to pull her away just so he could place the ring on her finger. It looked beautiful on her! She loved it, and he was truly the happiest man on earth!!!
Their wedding was held in August, though they chose red and orange as their thematic colors because they are reminiscent of a Vermont sunset. They incorporated, whenever possible, icons particular to "forest" and "lake". They sent wedding invitations made of wood to their guests, and had a hand-carved signboard as well as canoes and oars suspended from the ceiling of the wedding tent. The lantern was a theme they carried from beginning to end because they thought it wonderfully symbolic of guiding one another on a journey through life.
