They fall in love. He won't commit, and she waits patiently until he comes around! Fast forward four years to a proposal so romantic that it's clear Anna's patience was well worth it.
Jason and Anna met in Miami at Jackson Memorial Hospital, where Anna was employed in the Pediatric Surgical Special Care Unit and Jason was doing his surgical residency in Urology. They met just a few months after Jason had moved to Miami, and were engaged some five years later in February of 2004.
One late Friday afternoon, Anna received two dozen roses, a letter and a gift that would start her on a scavenger hunt leading ultimately to Jason and his proposal. In tears, not only because of this most eagerly anticipated moment, but because their apartment was in the process of being painted, and Anna was covered in paint with all of her belongings laying under a tarp in the middle of the living room floor, she called Jason to say there was no way she'd be on time. The painters weren't finished and, hello, when did he ever know her to be ready, and as it said in his letter, dressed to kill, in one hour? She was late. It was fine. At each stop, Anna found a close friend waiting with a glass of champagne, warm wishes and yet another gift and letter from Jason, each letter, a riddle, leading her ultimately to the restaurant where they'd had their first date. Anna's best friend was there with a pair of pink flip flops covered in hearts and directions to go down the back stairs "covered with flower petals no less" and to the beach, where Jason waited beneath a teepee filled with white orchids and illuminated by candles.
He was sitting beside a bottle of chilled champagne, a tray of strawberries and a small black box. Without waiting for the proposal, Anna said "Yes!" but Jason wanted to say the words out loud and so formally asked if she would do him the honor of becoming his wife, to which, again, the answer was a resounding "Yes!"
The details of Anna and Jason's wedding day were handled with meticulous care by Anna and by some truly exceptional professionals who transformed the Coach Barn into a festive and colorful venue. A fabulous floral and votive hanging candelabra adorned the entryway of the Coach Barn, exquisite lace napkins graced each place setting, and the dance hall was outfitted with platforms built for lounging and covered with inviting piles of silk dupioni pillows. Hundreds of blue and green paper globes hung from the ceiling- the predominant colors of the day, used in everything from invitations, programs and flowers, to linens, glassware and the cake.
Some other wonderful details included serving iced tea and lemonade from apothecary jars prior to the ceremony; parasols and hand-held fans were offered as shade from the late afternoon sun. Both were highly appreciated, and they made for some fantastic photos! Finally, late in the evening, guests were served Ben & Jerry's mini ice cream cones - a sweet farewell to all.
