Burlington area reception ideas
Hi, I am trying to find a reception site in the greater Burlington area for early September, 2008. Colchester/Burlington is home for both of us and we would love to take advantage of the natural beauty of the area, but we are on a budget. Ideally, we would find something where we could be outside if the weather is nice, but have either an indoor option or room for a tent in the event of rain. Any ideas? Thanks! Shannon

Re: Burlington area reception ideas
how big is your wedding? sleepy hollow inn is in hungington, you won't find it looking in any magazines but it's a family owned cross country ski/bike center. it has a newly built gorgeous round barn, the inn sleeps 28 people, but some of the rooms sleep several of your friends in one room. it is surrounded by miles or hiking/biking trails. their website gives you the entire breakdown of price, but requires a caterer. they can point you towards the caterers that will work with your budget. good luck!

Hi Shannon, How formal a wedding are you having? I photographed a pretty informal wedding last year at oakledge park during the first weekend in september. The weather was perfet. This is one of my favorite shots from the wedding: Mt. Philo would be another interesting option. Also check out the properties that the Shelburne museum owns. Best of luck!

I haven't been on here in awhile-sorry! We are hoping to keep it under 100 people. I am shooting for classy but comfortable. Right now, we are considering Kingsland Bay in Ferrisburgh. Any thoughts? I will definitely check into Oakledge and Mt. Philo. I got a package from Shelburne Museum, and it is definitely out of our price range. Sleepy Hollow would be perfect, but again, out of our price range. Thanks for the suggestions!

Re: Burlington area reception ideas
I'm in a similar predicament - looking for an inexpensive outdoor location with an indoor option in case of rain. I have the added complication of trying to plan this from out of state, so I cannot go and see the locations in person and have had difficulty finding photos or sufficient information for these suggested locations online. Does anyone know if Oakledge or Mt. Philo also have indoor options? I know that Kingsland Bay has 2 buildings but my understanding is that they are for larger receptions (we'll only have 30-40 guests). Thanks for your help!

Ok, going in a new direction, has anyone ever been to a wedding at the Bundy Center for the Arts in Waitsfield? I am trying to figure out if it's worth looking at. The price isn't terrible, and it looks nice with the pond. The only thing I'm not sure about is if there is room in the gallery for dancing. Any thoughts?

Re: Burlington area reception ideas
Shana, Have you had any luck finding a place? As far as I know, Oakledge and Mt. Philo only have picnic pavilions, which isn't ideal in the event of rain, but you may want to call the VT parks dept for info. Kingsland Bay does have 2 buildings to rent out, one is much smaller than the other. You could ask them if they rent just the smaller one. Another idea for 30-40 guests would be to rent out a restaurant, like Taste of Burlington, which is on the waterfront. I am trying to keep costs fairly under control, so if you want to exchange any other budget-friendly ideas, my email is guava6982@juno.com. Good luck!

Re: Burlington area reception ideas
not sure if this is in your budget, but my fiance and I were pleasantly surprised with the Vermont National Golf Club in South Burlinton- I know, golf club, right? But it doesn't have a pretentious feel, the food is amazing, and they have a great space and beautiful porch for cocktail hour! It may be a little more up-scale than what we're looking for, but thought I'd pass along the info. The staff was really friendly to us.

Re: Burlington area reception ideas
Hi Shannon! I have delivered many wedding cakes to Kingsland Bay and it is an absolutely gorgeous spot. In fact, I am thinking of booking it for my husband's 50th birthday party. The building itself is very airy and open but a blank canvas. You can fill it with candles, fresh flowers, candlaberas, paper lanterns or even hay bales! I've seen very elegant decor and very simple "Vermont country" decor. Some people have used the wrap around porch for the bar but if your wedding is smaller, move the bar inside. When it rains, the covered porch comes in handy too. I just fell in love with the spot and I've heard it doesn't cost that much compared to other places. Hope this helps!

Thanks for the suggestions everyone. This morning, I booked Kingsland Bay for September 13th, 2008 and I am very excited. Now that it is done, I can get going on everything else. Thanks again! Shannon
