Alicia and Tony were married outside, under an apple tree that inspired part of their decor—each guest’s place setting was marked with an apple picked from a nearby orchard Alicia had frequented as a child. Both the bride and groom recall as a favorite part of their day the moment when a streak of bright sunshine broke through the clouds as they said their vows. In true California fashion, the couple performed a wine ceremony at the wedding, using wine from a friend’s vineyard. To symbolize the blending of their families, the couple’s parents combined wine from two separate portions into a single glass. The reception was heartfelt, simple, and intimate. Tony brought the house down by singing Woody Guthrie’s “Someday, Some Morning, Sometime” to his new bride while a close friend accompanied him on the piano. The couple also enlisted the services of a Grateful Dead cover band—a choice Alicia’s parents were unsure of, until they found themselves on the dance floor for most of the evening. For much of Tony’s family, the celebration was extra special, since they were discovering Vermont for the first time. “Vermont, River Road Farm in particular, is the most magical place to be on a beautiful autumn weekend,” says Alicia.
