Cake is the flavor centerpiece of a wedding; concocting it should be a delectable experience. Borrow ideas from Vermont's inspired professionals to create one that's truly you.
1) Use mini chalkboards to identify and rate the fillings and flavors in your wedding cupcakes, suggests Occasions Catering.
2) Don't feel you have to make it match. "Each wedding cake is special. It doesn't necessarily need to go with the wedding; it just needs to be about you," says Michelle Hines of The Cakery.
3) "Sharing your favorite vintage fabrics or lace with your cake designer can help her understand your style," says Gretel-Ann Fischer of Fischer's Fancies.
4) Unusual flavor combinations can make for a memorable taste experience, so don't be afraid to mix it up.
5) Have inner beauty. "Nothing's more fun than cutting into a cake as beautiful inside as out, it's like opening a present," says Gretel-Ann Fischer of Fischer's Fancies.
6) Try setting a small cake on each table rather than having one big one. Guests can help themselves - and each other - without waiting in a long line.
7) "Visit the kitchen, if possible. If your cake designer is comfortable having you stop by, it's a great way to get to know her and how she works," says Daniel Samson of Let's Pretend Catering.
EDITORS NOTE: The best cakes are the ones that really reflect a couple's personality, so use personal details to make your cake unique.
