- "Peruse decorating magazines to keep up on color trends," suggests Janice Degoosh of The Pink Shutter in Montpelier.
- Once you've figured out some color preferences, look at flower varieties that come in those colors.
- For spring and summer weddings, Alison Ellis of Floral Artistry in Jericho, likes to start with a bright foundation of white and green, and than add colors to set a tone. "Adding one or two deep colors, like purple or orange, lends strong character and style to the overall decor, she says.
- Tara Pollio of Tara Pollio Floral-Event Design suggests starting with a neutral palette (sage, brown, taupe) and then spicing it up with pops of color like hot pink, orange, or purple.
- "For linens, color on the tables is a great way to go", says Ellis. Celery and sage always feel fresh and clean; bright oranges and deep pinks, fun and bold can warm things up.
