Pick Your Palette {Equestrian Elegance}

For an outdoor wedding imbued with the spirit and style of the polo-club set, crisp red, white, and blue really set the tone. Perfectly proper and utterly relaxed at the same time, this combination lends itself to a reception that’s as visually captivating and as fun as a chukker brilliantly played. Blue and white striped linens give outdoor tables a graphic punch; everything else stays simple—white plates on silver chargers, neatly stitched and buttoned rings around red linen napkins, and clusters of bright red dahlias, roses, and sweet peas in vintage trophies, by Tara Pollio Floral-Event Design.

Antique -silver, in simple shapes and patterns, is an elegant and slightly understated complement to the bold colors. Vivid red currants in a miniature trophy bowl are a fun and -unexpected element at the table. Equestrian-inspired accents, like the leather -buttons on these napkin rings, pull this look together.

An invitation by That’s Inviting is a colorful standout. A soft bouquet of begonias, dahlias, -hydrangea, and hellebores is complemented with a bold navy and -yellow striped ribbon in this arrangement by Tara Pollio Floral-Event Design. In this arrangement by Jasper & -Prudence Floral, a lavish blend of white larkspur, -eucalyptus, dusty miller, and lisianthus is decorated with a whimsical cascade of ribbons, including a vintage horse-show prize in yellow.

Don’t let a fondness for red, white, and blue get overbearing and boring. Bringing in calmer, natural hues like soft greens and golds keeps things cosmopolitan, not cartoony. You can tie all the elements together—literally—by wrapping your bouquets with graphic ribbons in your primary colors. The result is sleek and romantic at the same time. Dark chocolate cake layered with maple buttercream and fresh raspberries is draped in sleek ivory fondant, then decorated with exquisite equestrian-sport cameos; the stirrup-and-strap design buckled around the middle layer is another charming detail, from Irene’s Cakes by Design. Cool goat-cheese panna cotta with a vivid green layer of -celery puree is topped with salmon roe for a perfect -summer -appetizer, from Occasions Catering; fondant -horsehead detail of equestrian-themed cake; vintage ribbons and platters add elegance to a food table; handpainted cake detail.

Pick Your Palette {Pink, Fuschia, Gray & Black}

Pink’s feminine charm makes it a perennial wedding favorite. Teamed with black and white, it can be flirty and playful or perfectly polished. It’s no wonder pink makes the short list for almost every bride. Somehow, pink manages to be both breathtakingly romantic and undeniably glamorous at the same. Elegant but not overly formal, fun but never gaudy, and so flattering to almost everyone that it borders on the ridiculous, pink offers a spectrum of shades—from barely blushing to eye-popping fuchsia—with an endless potential for personalization. Paired with the classic combo black and white, pink lends an indulgent touch of the feminine, softening a look that would be too drab on its own. Whether your style is whimsical shabby chic or sleek and urban, the flexibility of this palette makes it a can’t-miss choice.

Vivid colors, vivid flavors. With a little creativity, pink can carry through to your menu, too. Here, pink orchid petals serve as “plates” for bundles of Kaffir lime chicken wrapped in leaves of romaine and tied with leek “ribbons,” from The Catered Affair. On a weathered wooden tray strewn with shells, vanilla and chocolate cupcakes are topped with a swirl of pink buttercream, crowned with white chocolate seashells, and tucked into lacy cut-paper cups for a note of vintage whimsy, by Cupcake Charlie’s.

Bride Inspired Pick Your Palette {Pink, Green, Black}

Pink, Green, Black

Photographer Ann Marie Somma was kind enough to share images from a recent wedding she did for a New York bride and we have to say, we are in love with this color palette! By combining the fresh hues of pink and green tied in with modern black the color design oozes spring sophistication.

The wedding was at historic Glenburnie on Northern Lake George. The flowers were from The Country Florist and Gifts in Ticonderoga. Grass was grown and boxes were constructed by the groom. The black feathers in the bouquets were the brides idea. The linens were from BBJ Linen, and are called Piccadilly. The stationary was the bride's design, produced and printed by the bride and groom. The invitation package included black outer and return envelopes from LCI Paper with hot pink (magenta) metallic liners from Mountain Cow. When deciding on colors, bold and beautiful is always in style.

Pick Your Palette {Yellow, Gray, White}

yellow

Sweetly charming or sleek and modern - it's your call. This palette offers endless possibilities for brides who want to summon the sunshine for their wedding day festivities. It's hard to imagine a more modern color combination than clean white and cool gray, but when you add a splash of sunshine, something magical happens: Things get very, very happy. This is not the palette for brides who take their weddings with a side of irony or for those who want solemn faces at the reception. There is something unabashedly, unapologetically upbeat about vivid yellow. It's the shade for brides who fully intend to beam as tehy walk down the aisle toward their happy beginning. The addition of gray shades keeps things from getting saccharine and helps elevate sunny yellow to sophisticated new heights. The combination can be charmingly rustic or city chic depending on how you use it. The choice is yours!
